Privacy Policy
Cadence is a single-user, local-first training journal. We do not run any servers. We do not have your data. There is no Cadence account.
1. Who we are
Cadence (“the app”) is published by Seud (“we”, “us”). For any privacy question relating to the app, contact privacy@seud.io.
2. Summary
- All training data (programmes, workouts, benchmarks, profile) is stored on your device. On iOS, if you are signed in to iCloud, it lives in your own iCloud Drive under
Cadence/. On Android, it lives in a folder you choose (via Android’s document picker) or in the app’s private storage. - You provide your own API key from Anthropic or OpenAI. The key is stored only on your device. We never receive or proxy it.
- When you ask the in-app coach to generate or revise a programme, your device sends a request directly to Anthropic or OpenAI — whichever provider you selected — over HTTPS. The request includes whatever profile, programme, or workout context is needed to answer it.
- If you enable health integration — Apple Health (HealthKit) on iOS, or Health Connect on Android — the app reads and writes data from the health store on your device. Health data is not transmitted to us or to the AI providers unless you explicitly include it in a prompt.
- We do not collect analytics, crash reports, advertising identifiers, or any usage telemetry.
3. Data we do not collect
Cadence has no backend operated by us. We have no servers that receive your data. Specifically, we do not collect:
- Your name, age, goals, equipment, health constraints, or any other profile information.
- Your workouts, programmes, benchmarks, results, or coach notes.
- Your Apple Health or Health Connect data of any kind (bodyweight, body fat, runs, workouts, heart rate, steps, calories, etc.).
- Your API keys.
- Your IP address, device identifiers, location, contacts, or photos.
- Crash logs, performance metrics, or analytics events.
4. Data stored on your device
The following data is stored locally on the device where Cadence is installed. On iOS — if you are signed in to iCloud and iCloud Drive is enabled for Cadence — it is synchronised to your personal iCloud account by Apple. On Android it is written to the folder you selected via the system document picker (which may itself be a folder inside a cloud service you use, such as Google Drive), or to the app’s private storage if you did not select one:
- Profile — name, optional age, goals, experience level, equipment, optional health constraints. Saved as Markdown in
Cadence/settings.md. - Programmes & workouts — saved as Markdown files in
Cadence/programs/, one folder per programme, one file per day. - Benchmarks — saved as Markdown files in
Cadence/benchmarks/. - Settings & secrets — your AI provider choice, model selection, API key, onboarding flag, and Health-sync preferences are stored on-device using the operating system’s secure storage for app data (iOS / Android
AsyncStorage). The API key never leaves your device except in the outbound HTTPS request to the AI provider you selected.
Because your data is stored as plain Markdown in your own iCloud Drive, chosen Android folder, or on-device Documents folder, you can read, edit, back up, or delete it outside the app at any time using the iOS Files app, the Finder, Android’s Files app, or any text editor.
5. Third parties
AI providers (Anthropic / OpenAI)
When you tap any feature that uses the coach — generating a new programme, revising days, reviewing a workout, importing a programme — your device sends an HTTPS request directly to the AI provider you selected. The request includes:
- Your API key, in the request headers, so the provider can authenticate the request and bill you.
- The prompt content the feature requires — for example, your profile fields, the relevant programme or workout context, and any free-text instruction you typed.
Your prompt and the model’s response are governed by the privacy policy and terms of the provider you chose. We have no role in that transmission beyond constructing the prompt on your device and showing you the response. See:
If you do not want any data sent to a third-party AI provider, do not enter an API key, and do not use the coach features. The rest of the app (manual programme entry, workout logging, benchmarks, Health sync, Markdown import/export) works without an API key.
Apple iCloud
If you are signed in to iCloud, the operating system synchronises the files Cadence writes to its iCloud container across your Apple devices. This sync is performed by Apple under Apple’s Privacy Policy. We do not have access to your iCloud account or the synchronised files.
Apple HealthKit
If you grant Cadence permission, the app may:
- Read bodyweight, body fat percentage, and running workouts from HealthKit to keep your benchmarks current.
- Write completed workouts back to HealthKit so they appear on your Activity rings and in your health history.
HealthKit data is read from and written to the local HealthKit store on your device and is governed by Apple’s health data protections. We do not transmit Health data off your device. You can revoke or change these permissions at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → Cadence.
Health Connect (Android)
On Android, Cadence integrates with Health Connect. If you grant permission, the app may:
- Read steps, heart rate, distance, total and active calories burned, exercise sessions, weight, and body fat percentage — used solely to keep your benchmarks current and to show your training history inside the app.
- Write completed workouts (exercise sessions and active calories burned) back to Health Connect so they appear in your health history and in other apps you have connected.
Health Connect data is read from and written to the Health Connect store on your device. It is stored only in your local training files as described above. We do not transmit Health Connect data off your device, do not use it for advertising or marketing, do not sell it, and do not share it with third parties. It is never sent to the AI providers unless you explicitly include a value (for example, your bodyweight benchmark) in a prompt you compose. You can revoke or change these permissions at any time in Health Connect → App permissions → Cadence, and you can delete the stored values by editing or deleting your benchmark and workout files, or via Settings → Danger → Reset all data in the app.
6. Data we do collect
None. We operate no servers, run no analytics SDKs, and do not receive any data from the app.
7. Children
Cadence is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because we do not collect personal information from anyone, this policy applies uniformly to all users.
8. Security
All network requests Cadence makes (to Anthropic and OpenAI) use HTTPS. Your API key is stored using the platform’s standard app-data storage. If you lose or replace your device, your data persists in iCloud only if iCloud Drive was enabled for Cadence; otherwise it is local to the device and is removed when the app is deleted. There is no “Cadence account” to compromise on our side because we do not have one.
9. Your choices and rights
- Delete all app data — Settings → Danger → Reset all data inside the app removes the API key, profile, programmes, benchmarks, and Health-sync state from the device and from the iCloud container.
- Export your data — Settings → Data → Export all data writes a JSON snapshot you can save anywhere. The Markdown files in
Cadence/are also yours to copy. - Revoke API access — you can rotate or revoke your API key with Anthropic or OpenAI directly. The app will simply stop being able to call the coach.
- Revoke Health access — manage in iOS Settings or Android’s Health Connect app permissions, as described above.
- Uninstall — deleting the app removes its on-device data. Files synced to your iCloud Drive remain in your iCloud until you delete them.
Because we do not collect or hold your personal data, we have nothing to return, correct, or delete on your behalf in response to a data-subject request under the GDPR, the CCPA, or comparable laws. If you have such a request relating to data held by Anthropic, OpenAI, or Apple, please direct it to those providers.
10. International users
The app may be downloaded anywhere Apple or Google makes it available. The AI providers you select may process your prompts in jurisdictions different from yours; consult their privacy policies for details. We ourselves do not transfer your data anywhere because we do not receive it.
11. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, the new version will be published at this URL with an updated effective date. Material changes will also be summarised in the app’s release notes.
